by Janet Dagostino, Savvy Spreadsheets
This article provides detailed instructions on how to use our pro and con list template, the Quick Decision Maker.
Entering your Question
Enter the decision to be made, typing over the example.
Entering your Pros and Cons
Enter your first factor (pro or con) to consider in making your decision, typing over the example.
Then, choose whether this factor is a pro or con. You can type in “Pro” or “Con”, or select from the drop-down menu.
Finally, determine how heavily this factor should weigh in your decision. Pick 1 through 5, with 1 being the least important and 5 being the most important. You can type in the number or select from the drop-down menu.
Repeat these steps for up to 20 factors.
When you are finished entering your pros and cons, click the green “Make Decision” button.
Viewing the Decision
The Quick Decision Maker will add up all of your pros and cons, and tell you what you should do!
At the top of the sheet, you will see your answer.
On the left-hand side, you’ll see all of the pros and their weights.
On the right-hand side, you’ll see all of the cons.
If the pros outweigh the cons, you should do it! If the cons outweigh the pros, you shouldn’t do it!
Revising your Pros and Cons
To revise your pros and cons, click on the “Back to Pros and Cons” button at the top. You will be brought back to your pro and con list so you can make adjustments.
